We’ve all been told over and over again that to lose weight and feel healthy, we’ve just got to eat real, whole and healthily food and exercise regularly!
Now, all the facts are there, and it sounds pretty easy. So why does is it feel SO DIFFICULT?
Well, I want to tell you why. The truth is, it’s because for some of us, our relationship with food goes a whole lot deeper than just the facts. There are feelings and emotions involved – and we all know too well that whenever feelings and emotions are around, things start to get really complicated.
The ‘some of us’ (over 80% of us actually) that have this emotional connection with food, we’re called ‘emotional eaters,’ and when it comes to trying to lose weight it’s an adventure that requires a holistic approach which includes the psychological as well as the physical.
If you eat when you’re bored, or to lift your mood, or to comfort yourself, or when you’re happy, or when you’re stressed, or even for reward, you fall in to the category of an emotional eater.
If you feel ashamed to eat in front of your friends or your partner, if you feel out of control when it comes to food (or just certain types of foods) and if you are internally punishing yourself for every sweet and sugary craving you give in to (but you just. can’t. stop.) it’s very likely that emotional eating has found its way into your life, your body and your mind.
But you know what? That’s OK. Up until two years ago, I was an emotional eater too. There, I said it! I’d battled for years with my weight and tried every single diet on the market, but it was only when I finally became aware of the much deeper ‘emotional eating’ issue, that I could even begin to start the road to healing it to deal with it.
So you’re an emotional eater. What now?
Do not worry my gorgeous, because you are in safe hands. And together, we’re going to put an end to emotional eating once and for all!
If you’re sick and tired of feeling like a failure with every diet you’ve tried, if you’re fed up with feeling sluggish and lethargic, if your willpower has been totally sucked dry and if you find yourself sobbing as you cram your muffin tops into your jeans – then I’ve got something for you that I know you’re going to love!
I’ve put together a whole program dedicated to making your health and weight loss simple, it’s called ‘Eat with Ease’. Out of everything you’ve tried, you’ll breathe a sigh of relief because this program finally works! Eat with Ease covers every single aspect of how to make a transformation that lasts: including your mind, your body, your food, addictions, your movement, your past, your present, your future, your emotions, your feelings, your knowledge and everything in between!
To tell you more about the program, and to provide you with some really simple steps to get you on the right track to feeling happy, healthy and wonderful at last, I’ll be releasing some videos over here on The Healthy Living Club every week this month. Cos’ you know as well as I do, after all this time, you really deserve to feel AMAZE-BALLS!
What if I believe I’ll never succeed at feeling good?
Ah, see that’s your emotional brain talking. Yep, the those thoughts that tell you that you’re worthless, a failure, will never look and feel the way you want and leave you feeling miserable are the culprits to fuelling the emotional eaters fire! I remember them all too well, and I’m afraid they’re part of the package that makes up your relationship to food. But, don’t fear, because I’ve got that covered too, and we’re going to delve deep into your mind and kick the ‘mean bit’s’ butt all the way to you feeling as special and as gorgeous and as worthy as YOU ARE!
You can keep an eye out for my guidance videos by checking back here each week. But in the meantime, here are some of my top tips to kick start your journey to health and self love!
- RECOGNISE the emotional responses you experience. Every time you go to the fridge, ask yourself why you want to eat? Is it because you’re actually hungry, or, is it because you’re bored, sad, happy, excited, nervous or stressed? Or even, because it’s become a habit. Chances are you’ll surprise yourself how often the answer to ‘Am I hungry?’ is NO.
- REMEMBER your responses. Notice what you do (i.e. eat), when you do it (i.e. every day when you arrive home from work), how it feels when you’re doing it (i.e. you feel guilty because you’ve eaten so well all day.) Keep a record of these habits and feelings in a journal to find patterns you could alter.
- REPLACE food as your go-to ‘pick me up’ with something else you enjoy. We have four senses aside from taste, explore them to boost those dopamine levels. Take a bath in deliciously scented aromatherapy oils, play and dance around with your kids, get lost in an exhilarating read or listen to a playlist of your favourite songs.
There are a myriad of ways to tend to your emotions that do not involve eating.
So go ahead, give yourself and your body a break, you really DO deserve it!
